At least 12 migrant labourers were gravely injured after a bus on which they had hitched rides to reach their native places in Bihar collided with an oncoming truck in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The Kushinagar bus-truck collision happened near a petrol pump in Patherwa on NH-28 on late Sunday night. The bus was ferrying the migrants to Bhagalpur in Bihar amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown which was extended on Sunday as the Covid-19 cases in India crossed 90,000 mark.
At least 12 migrants have sustained serious injures of which, seven are said to be in a serious condition. Some of them have been shifted to Gorakhpur medical college. Police personnel reached the accident spot and rushed the injured to Tamkuhi health centre with the help of Kushinagar locals.
Earlier on Sunday morning, at least 15 migrants sustained injuries after the bus on which they had hitched rides in their desperation to reach home overturned in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. All the migrant labourers, who worked in a brick factory in Sahudangi, were going to Cooch Behar district in West Bengal when the incident happened.
